Belarus commemorates 1944 liberation of Minsk

Belarus commemorates the 1944 march of the Red Army into Minsk that pushed out the occupying Nazi forces, leading to the liberation of the country.

Belarus additionally declared independence from the former Russian Soviet Union on July 27, 1990. The official date of independence, as established through official entry in the constitution, is August 25, 1991.
