Kuwait celebrates February 26 as the day the country was liberated from Iraq in what became known as the Gulf War.
The coalition of international forces, led by the US, succeeded in driving out the Iraqi forces in 1991.
During the Iraqi occupation, about 1,000 Kuwaiti civilians were killed and more than 300,000 residents fled the country.
