The Ankara Film Festival was established in 1998. It is organized by The World Mass Media Research Foundation and accredited by FIPRESCI.
It features various national and international film genres and rewards the best among them.
The festival gives the public an interesting insight into the Turkish film industry and gives them the opportunity to meet film directors and artists and discuss their work with them.
The festival awards prizes across thirty separate categories, including Best Feature Film, Best Short Film and Best Documentary. There are also awards for Best Actor and Actress and those in a supporting role.
Among these awards, there are two special awards,
the Mahmut Tali Ongeren Special Award and the Onat Kutlar Best Script Award, both presented in memory of these respected figures in the Turkish film industry.
The event also features exhibitions, discussions and a range of other activities, such as conferences and workshops and a street art exhibition that takes place across the city.
