The World Wetlands Day is an annual recurring event to provide attention for the benefits and fragility of the world’s wetlands. The World Wetlands Day theme for 2012 is Wetlands and Tourism.
Wetland tourism has become an worldwide billion dollar industry and to preserve the beauty of it, an intergovernmental treaty was signed in the Iranian city of Ramsar in 1971 to deal with the use of wetlands and its resources.
To this date, the so called Ramsar Convention is the only global environment treaty on wetlands that provides provisions and a directive framework on the national and international level.
