The Paris-Roubaix is one of the top cycling events to attend in the Spring.

It is also one of the oldest of its kind, having begun in 1896. The race has run ever since and only the two World Wars prevented it from happening.

The competition starts in Compiègne (60 km north-east from Paris since 1968 though it did initially start from Paris) and ends in Roubaix. The track is 258 km long and there are many cobbled sections, which increase the difficulty of the race. Because of this the winner also gets a cobbled stone in addition to his prize.
