Waitangi Day (New Zealand Day)

Waitangi Day is named after the treaty of Waitangi on 6 February 1840, in which New Zealand became part of the British Empire and the Maori got British Citizenship.

In 1973 a law was passed to make Waitangi Day a National Holiday and name it also New Zealand Day.
