Water is not to be saved during the festival
Songkran Festival is celebrated as the traditional Thai New Year, but worldwide it is more commonly known as the Thailand Water Festival.
Originally the festival was intended for Thai people to sprinkle water on elders and family members for good fortune and pay respect to images of Buddha.
Nowadays, the festival has evolved into three days of water splashing with the help of buckets, super soakers and water hoses, which involves everyone who gathers on the streets.
