After the Egyptian Revolution  in January 2011, a Constitutional Referendum was organised on 19 March the same year.

Over 14 million (77%) were in favour of the changes, while close to 4 million (23%) were against them. From the 45 million eligible to vote, only 41% of them turned out.

Amongst the adopted constitutional amendments were the following: judicial supervision of elections, a limitation on the presidency to at most two four-year terms and a requirement for the president to appoint at least one vice president.
