Marginal of Luanda, Angola's capital

The war in the Southern African state of Angola was mainly a battle for power between two ex-liberation movements, The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) and the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).

The Angloan Civil War began in 1975 and lasted for 75 years until 2002.

During that time, it became a surrogate field of the Cold war, due to a strong intervention of major opposing leaders like the United States and the Soviet Union.

The Angolan Civil War took place after the state becameĀ independentĀ from Portugal in November 1975. The decolonisation commenced in 1974 and it lead to the Angolan War of Independence.
