The French weekly magazine Les Inrockuptibles publishes a report claiming a secret nuclear deal between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Libya's former leader Muammar Gaddafi.
According to the magazine, Sarkozy and Gaddafi agreed to trade French nuclear cooperation for the release of the foreign medics who were detained in Libya.
The five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor were serving jail sentences of eight years on charges of infecting children with AIDS virus. They were released on 24 July 2007, after a French intervention.
The magazine claims it has based the report on confidential documents dating back from the week before the medic's release. The French Presidential office and the Foreign Ministry have not commented on the report yet.
The report is published three days before the second round of the Presidential elections in France, in which Sarkozy is facing a tough challenge against François Hollande.
