The construction of the 21st-century version of the famous Titanic begins. Clive Palmer, one of Australia's richest men, announced his plan to build Titanic II in April 2012. He commissioned a Chinese state-owned company to build a vessel as similar as possible to the original Titanic in design and specifications. Titanic's successor will, however, feature modern technology.
"It will be every bit as luxurious as the original Titanic but of course it will have state-of-the-art 21st Century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems," Palmer said in a statement. The ship should be ready to set sails in late 2016, but unlike the original Titanic which sailed from Southampton to New York, Titanic II will start its maiden journey to the "Big Apple" from London.
