Phnom Penh, Killing Fields of Choeung Ek

Wikipedia-Liton Ali

Every year, a ceremony is held at Choeung Ek killing fields memorial near the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, to commemorate the barbarian practices of the 1975-1979 Khmer Rouge’s rule.

The movement, led by Pol Pot, also known as Brother Number One caused the death of an estimated 1.7 million people through execution, overwork, starvation and illness.

The extreme Maoist inspired movement ordered the evacuation of entire cities and promoted an autarkic rural society. Intellectuals, money or any form of possession that tended to be linked with capitalism was forbidden.
