Today marks the invention of the Vacuum Cleaner.
A project which initially came together on July 10 of 1860, the vacuum cleaner has become a standard cleaning possession of most households in the first and second world.
The inventor, David Hess from Iowa, first called it a carpet sweeper. His patent application was received on this day in 1860 (US No. 29.077).
