The giant panda Xin Xin is artificially inseminated to extend the panda family at the Chapultepec Zoo in Mexico's capital.

No baby panda has been born at the zoo since Xin Xin was born in 1990. Pandas reproduce very little, as females are fertile only a couple of days a year and male pandas often do not respond.

Two Chinese experts on panda reproduction have helped the zoo prepare for the insemination.
