The channel, named "Ireland Today", targets the Irish American community and is set to broadcast "news, current affairs, international events and cultural happenings," according to Tony Culley-Foster, Chairman of World Affairs Council, Washington.

The channel is focused on broadcasting events from the "City of Culture" agenda, a series of events to be hosted by the second-largest city in Northern Ireland, Derry (Londonderry) in 2013.
The cable channel broadcasts for four hours daily and is expected to run 24/7 before the end of the year.
