The Diamond Week for tourists is organized by Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in order to show to its visitors how diamonds are extracted, sorted, and processed.
The tourist route starts in the diamond capital of Yakutia, Mirny, with a tour of the 500-meter quarry of diamond pipe "Mir", the diamond sorting center and the museum of kimberlites. Later, tourists will move to Yakutsk to visit eco-ethnographic complex "The Kingdom of Permafrost," etno-museum "Ytyk Haya" and eco-ethnographic complex "Chochur Muran." The Diamond Week ends with an auction of Yakutian diamonds and jewelry made of gold, platinum and silver.
99% of all Russian diamonds are mined in Yakutia, accounting for over 25% of the world's diamond production.
