Italy's former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi may make his political comeback just in time for the March 2013 parliamentary elections . Berlusconi expressed his plans to return as a candidate in late November 2012.
At the time of the announcement, the senior politician, who served as Italy's Prime Minister three times, added that his final decision on the matter would be made public after the results of the center-left coalition election were published. In the first round of the elections , neither of the candidates managed to attract enough votes to secure a victory and will therefore have to meet again in a second round .
Should the younger and more progressive candidate and Mayor of Florence Matteo Renzi win over Pier Luigi Bersani, the current leader of the Democratic Party, Berlusconi is unlikely to make a comeback, political analysts say.
