Taiwan invests more than $20 million in the local production of TV drama series. The move aims to reinvigorate the drama industry in the country, which has been suffering from fierce competition from China and South Korea. Until a few years ago, the Taiwanese love stories were very popular in China. However, last year, the island's drama series took only a 16 percent share of foreign drama productions aired in China. The Taiwanese government will invest in the making of five flagship drama series and help TV stations attract young talents to increase the quality of their productions.
"We hope to attract young movie workers, actors and script writers to the industry to help us penetrate the Mandarin-language drama market," said Taiwan's Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai.
