Donna Summer is accepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with seven others.

The world renowned diva, who rose to fame during the disco-era of the 1970s, passed away in May 2012.

The singer's admission into the Hall of Fame is a recognition of her popularity and her influence in the development of music and musical styles. Her first major hit, Love to Love You Baby, was released in 1976. Three years later, several of her singles reached the coveted number one spot on the charts.

Summer went on to receive five Grammy Awards

This marks the first time that music fans were allowed to vote for their favourite nominees to enter the Hall of Fame. Previously, only ex-inductees were allowed to make this decision.

Others to enter the Hall of Fame include hip-hop pioneers Public Enemy, blues legend Albert King and Canadian band Rush.
