Jordan hosts peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The meetings are held under US and the EU understandings.
Jordanian King Abdullah announced the talks shortly after Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas agreed on a ceasefire to stop hostilities and attacks on each others' territory.
More than 150 people died during the flare-up of violence that began mid November.
Since the ceasefire came into force, tension between Israel and Palestine has risen again after the UN General Assembly approved to upgrade the Palestinian Authority's UN status as a non-member observer state.
Israel strongly opposes the new Palestinian UN status and announced plans to develop the so-called E1, which stands for the land east of Jerusalem. It is widely recognized that the Israeli E1 project could eliminate hopes for an independent Palestinian state.
