NYC Mayor M. Bloomberg received the Foursquare Mayor of the Year Shorty Award in 2012
The Shorty Awards, known simply the Shorties, are a series of awards honoring top short-form content creators on Twitter. They were created in 2008 by the Brooklyn-based startup company Sawhorse Media and have been primarily sponsored by John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
The awards have already expanded and now recognize content creation on other social networking sites, such as Facebook, Foursquare and Tumblr.
There are in total around 65 awards categories, but the number can vary from year to year.
