Croatia may join the European Union as planned after resolving a long-standing dispute over bank savings with Slovenia.
"We have a solution that is acceptable for both sides," Slovenia's top diplomat Karl Erjavec said after a six-hour-long meeting with his Croatian counterpart Vesna Pusic in early February.
"The technical issues have been cleared out, now what remains is the political issue, and I believe there is a chance that we will convince our governments that this is the real political solution," Erjavec added.
Speaking to Croatian PM Zoran Milanovic on in December 2012, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said: "I count on it that we will be together in the EU on 1 July 2013. We strongly welcome Croatia."
