LG's new OLED screen
LG Electronics Inc. releases its 55-inch televisions that use a technology called OLED to its home market in South Korea.
The company is the first to make OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs after beating off rivals like the Japanese Sony Corp. and fellow South Korean Samsung Electronics.
OLED screens feature images with enhanced clarity, deeper colour saturation and sharper constrast than their predecessor, LCD. The new technology allows for manufacturers to produce thinner televisions, with LG's model being only 4 millimetres thick.
