Shantel Rusike, a Zimbabwean woman from Bulawayo is set to appear before magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa on charges that she sent an image of a naked President Robert Mugabe to a friend via popular social networking platform Whatsapp.Rusike faces charges of causing hatred, contempt or ridicule of the president as defined in Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law act. She allegedly sent an image depicting President Mugabe in a nude state to a colleague on Christmas day. The picture was accompanied by the caption: "Robert Mugabe turning 87 years on 21 February, happy birthday Matibili operation." The colleague filed a police report leading to Rusike's arrest. The 20-year-old was released on $100 bail. A similar case reached headlines in April 2012, when Benias Madhakasi was arrested and jailed for about four months after being charged with possession of computer-generated caricature images of President Robert Mugabe. Madhakasi was freed in July after the High Court threw out all the charges he was facing.
