The Elfstedentocht, a speed skating game and a leisure staking tour held in the Dutch province of Friesland, may be held for the first time in 16 years.

The first speculations about the possibility of the popular race being held began in mid-January after the night temperatures dropped below freezing point for several consecutive nights.

The Elfstedentocht is the world's longest speed skating circuit, with 200 kilometers of natural ice along eleven (Elf-) Frysian cities (-steden). The tour can only start when ice is at least 15 centimeters thick along the entire course. - Schaatskoorts barst los: reële kans op Elfstedentocht on 2013-01-17
