Sony Xperia Tablet S
The latest tablet from Sony Mobile Communications is due to become available in Japan.
The Xperia Tablet Z boasts a 10.1 inch display and a width of just 6.9mm, making it the thinnest tablet on the market. Apple Inc.'s thinnest tablet measures 7.2mm, previously the smallest of its kind available to consumers.
Sony halted sales of their previous Xperia tablet in October 2012 due to design issues involving a gap between the screen and the case that made the products more susceptible to water damage.
The new tablet is said to feature the same design language as the Xperia Z mobile phone. Unlike the mobile version, the Xperia tablet is made out of soft-touch plastic, which allows for a light construction.
Weighing-in at 495g, Sony's tablet offers consumers a thinner and lighter model.
The screen has a 1920 x 1200 resolution with a pixel density of 224. It also includes an 8-megapixel camera.
The tablet becomes available to Japanese consumers in the spring, yet no plans to sell overseas were mentioned at the time of the announcement about the launch.
