US President Barack Obama may attend the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's visit to the Republic of Ireland, which took place on 26-29 June 1963.

The US president is scheduled to travel to Northern Ireland to attend the 39th G8 Summit  to be held  on 17-18 June 2013 at the Lough Erne resort in Co Fermanagh.

When he traveled to County Wexford, his "ancestral homeland", in 1963 US President Kennedy was given a very warm reception. New Ross, nearby Wexford is the place where Patrick Kennedy, the president's great-grandfather, set sail for America during the 1848 Irish potato famine.
