Kerry will try to revive peace talks in the region
John Kerry, who has recently become the new US Secretary of State, travels to the Middle East with planned stops in Israel and the Palestinian Authority in a bid to revive the stalled peace process.
The US Senator had earlier warned that a failure to reach a two-state solution would be "disastrous for all concerned" and that he prayed the new Israeli government would be open to his assistance as Secretary of State in restarting the peace talks.
The visit will be part of a wider tour of the region, including trips to Egypt, Jordan and possibly Saudi Arabia.
President Obama is also expected in the region in the spring of 2013.
