The vessel is Iran's first indigenous ocean-going tanker
Iran launches its first indigenous ocean-going oil tanker, delivering it to the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), the Middle East's largest tanker company.
The 186 metres-long vessel is capable of carrying 35,000 tons of oil products and has an estimated value of around $29 million.
The move is part of the country's attempt to enhance its shipbuilding industry in a time when the Islamic Republic's economy has been shaken by western-backed sanctions over its nuclear program.
In 2009, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad banned the purchase of foreign ships by Iranian organizations.
