Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands passes on the throne to her son, Prince Willem-Alexander.
The Queen announced her abdication during a last-minute radio and television broadcast earlier this year. During the broadcast, Queen Beatrix, 75 years of age, said it was the right "moment to lay down my crown".
"Responsibility for our country must now lie in the hands of a new generation," the Queen said, adding she was "deeply grateful for the great faith you have shown in me in the many years that I could be your Queen."
Prince Willem-Alexander is set to become the first Dutch king in over a century.
