A new Chinese sitcom modeled on the popular American TV show Friends debuts on major Chinese internet video-on-demand sites such as Youku, iQiyi and SINA.
The new show titled Planet Homebuddies centers on the lives and loves, adventures and misadventures, of six friends living together in a Shanghai loft.
The middle-class urban characters include a failed advertising executive, an IT specialist, a DJ and an art curator.
The name of the show refers to the work-from-home trend that, according to the series producers Mei Tian Mei Yu, is the norm among China's youth. The producers noticed that most young people tend to work around the clock on weekdays and hang out with friends on weekends, adopting more of a homebody lifestyle.
