UN Special Human Rights Rapporteur Tomas Ojea Quintana visits Myanmar to assess the impact of the conflict on Kachin State, located in the northern part of the country, and other human rights issues.
"I will be lending my voice to calls for a ceasefire and progress in addressing minority issues," Quintana stated ahead of the visit.
The northern region of Myanmar, the Kachin State, has been plagued by a civil war that erupted on June 9, 2011 between the Kachin Independence Army and the Burmese army.
