EU Health Commissioner Tonio Borg and other European ministers meet to consider the implications of horsemeat found in products sold as beef.

Ireland, the country that currently holds the EU presidency, called for the meeting, stating that it wants to discuss "whatever steps may be necessary at EU level to comprehensively address this matter".

The agenda will reportedly include introducing measures such as labelling processed meat for its origin. Manufacturers in Ireland have been asked to carry out DNA testing to reassure consumers and export markets in the meantime.
