Three Nigerian radio journalists are charged with culpable homicide over the killing of at least nine female polio vaccinators.

A discussion took place in a radio program in which the journalists reinforced the widespread rumour, prevalent in Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north, that the vaccine sterilizes young girls.

The journalists will be charged on the basis that the on-air discussion about rumours around the vaccine sparked the attack.

Nigeria is one of three countries in the world in which polio remains endemic.
