Tierney is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court
Alan Tierney, a former Surrey police officer, appears at Westminster Magistrates' Court after being charged with two offences of misconduct in public office over allegations he sold information to the Sun newspaper.
The 40-year-old former constable is alleged to have provided information in two separate cases involving footballer John Terry and Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood in 2009, receiving a sum of £1,750 in exchange.
Tierney's charges are part of the Met Police's Operation Elveden, an inquiry into the corruption of public officials by journalists at News International, which brought charges to top UK media executives and former Sun editor Virginia Wheeler.
