Indian federal government decides on sugar industry decontrol. The pending decisions include "issues like levy sugar, release mechanism and others", according to Food Minister K.V. Thomas.

An export panel headed by the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council chairman C. Rangarajan had recommended last October that regulation of release mechanism and levy sugar obligation should be lifted.
