Members of South Africa's National Assembly are expected to approve a 5.5 percent salary increase for magistrates a week before the magistracy was due to hold a strike against the unfulfilled promise.
The parliament's Justice Committee adopted on March 13 a report recommending the National Assembly to ratify the increase recommended by the Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers last year.
Once approved, magistrates will be paid their increases backdated from April last year.
