Israel celebrates its Independence Day, commemorate the founding of the country in 1948. According to the Hebrew calendar, Yom Ha'atzmaut is celebrated on 5 Iyar.
Several events are held on Yom Ha'atzmaut across the country.
An official ceremony is held on Mount Herzl, the national cemetery of Israel. It includes a speech by the speaker of the Knesset, artistic performances and the lightning of twelve torches, one for each of the ancient tribes of Israel.
Other events are the Israel Prize ceremony, the International Bible Contest and a reception of Israel's President, honoring excellence to 120 soldiers.
